In Korea, about from six hundred thousand to one million two hundred thousand artificial abortions are performed every year. However any reliable survey in maternity death caused by artificial abortions and case studies have not been made yet.
According to the figurse released by the Bureau of Statistics of Japan, medical disputes resulted from abortion took up 70-odd cases out of 400 obstetrics and gynecology related controversies handled by court for 20 years, from 1962 to1982. Among

incomplete abortion top the list as 22 cases followed by bleedings or remaining remnants in wombs, which are 9, inflammations or infections, 8, and anesthetic accidents, which are 7cases.

of the proper follow-up care after treatment and septic shock occured by negligence of inflammation.
Needless to say, they are avoidable. In medical law suits, not a few cases have resulted in acknowledging doctors' responsibilities for their mistreatment and ordering them to compensate to their patients.
It is time that we should try harder to identify main factors which lead to motality from abortion and to save both patients and doctors from more unhappy medical troubles.
